The Greater Dayton School (GDS) is looking for an elementary Music teacher to help us build and implement a one-of-a-kind music program for students in grades PreK-6. Over time, GDS will grow our music program to serve students in grades PreK-8.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Create and and teach a state-of-the-art PreK-6th grade music program.
- Create music class units of study and lessons based on music from around the world.
- Plan and lead musical performances for family events, which may include a school musical, band/orchestra recital, or choral performance.
- Document student learning via portfolios on a learning management system.
- Organize and manage the music room supplies and equipment and the classroom environment.
Character Traits and Preferred Experience:
- Experience directing musical performances.
- At least 1 year of teaching music to elementary age students.
- Content knowledge in general music, world-music, music history, band, orchestra, choir, rock band, African drumming and or other musical styles and genres.
- Content specific pedagogy for teaching kids how to appreciate and create music.
- Strong classroom management and classroom procedures
Preferred:
- Experience with designing and leading a music program.
- Experience with competency based learning assessment models.
- Experience with digital music tools and technology.
Compensation:
- Base salary – starting at $59,000+ based on experience
